Scholars Institute

The Monsignor Farrell Scholars Institute offers a highly challenging, four-year, program of study which has been carefully designed to meet the special needs of the academic "top guns" who score in the 90% and above range on the TACHS Examination. We believe that our program will be regarded as the "ultimate" in scholars institutes located in our area.

ELIGIBILITY is based on the following criteria:

  • 90% or above TACHS score.
  • 90% or above average for 7th & 8th grade work.

All candidates will be notified of their acceptance into this special four year program at the time they receive their letter in January.

COLLEGE CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES allow for our Farrell Scholars to earn up to a full year or more of actual college credit by taking a combination of Advanced Placement and accredited College Extension courses which are offered right here on our own campus by our own, highly credentialed, professors. At present, there are eleven different courses which allow a student to earn college credits.

Graduating seniors who have earned college credits are most likely to experience a decided advantage in the competition for acceptance into the best colleges; better success rate in securing academic scholarships; advanced standing in their college programs and financial savings for college level credits already completed in high school.

FARRELL HONORS PROGRAM

The Farrell Honors Program is designed to meet the special needs of those candidates who have scored in the 80% and above range on the TACHS Examination, performed well on school administered placement examinations and who have maintained well above average 7th and 8th grade academic records.

Candidates will be placed into Honors classes in those areas where they have demonstrated superior ability. All other courses will be college preparatory or Regents level. Honor students will ultimately have the opportunity to select from the wide range of Advanced Placement and college credit courses which are available to students enrolled in the Scholars Institute. It is expected that the large majority of our Honors students will have earned a significant number of college credits upon graduation from Monsignor Farrell.

COLLEGE PREPARATORY-NYS REGENTS PROGRAM

All students entering Monsignor Farrell High School are expected to pursue a college preparatory-NYS Regents program of study. Freshmen who demonstrate strength in certain subject areas, may be allowed to enroll in Honors courses during their subsequent years. Also, students who maintain good grades in certain subject areas may, upon recommendation of their teachers, be allowed to enroll in several of our college level courses.

Traditionally, 99%+ of our graduates attend a four-year college or university. . Our follow-up surveys indicate that over 95% of our Farrell men graduate from a four-year college or university with an increasing number of them going on for further study at the graduate level.
