12 Angry Men

By Leonard Savoleo

This Fall the Farrell Players have been busy working for the school year's first drama production, Twelve Angry Men, featuring Danny Lane, Joseph Romano, Greg Benedetto, and Andrew Winslow, to name a few.  Written by Reginald Rose, the play spurred off the 1958 award-winning film of the same name, starring Henry Fonda and Jack Klugman.  Taking place entirely in a jury room, the drama deals with the limits of human emotion as twelve jurors decide the fate of a boy on trial for murder.
The Players' new director is Mr. Andrew Monteleone, the school's Musical Director as well as a teacher of math and physics. Former director Dr. Frank Caltabiano has assumed the role of producer.  In the spring the Players will be performing the musical
Damn Yankees.
    You can see
Twelve Angry Men on Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th in the Gym at 8:00PM.  Tickets are a mere five dollars, and Fair Share coupons are accepted. We suggest you come, don't have an excuse--they do call these guys "Angry" for a  reason!

the last 14 years.

TL: Were you good in math as a student?
MJ: No, because the teachers never made it fun.  I hope to make math more fun and interesting for my classes, and maybe they'll learn easier.

TL: So you enjoy teaching?
MJ: I Love it with a capital L.  It is the single most important job because you're molding the future and it's fun.

TL: Is there any differences in teaching in an all boys school than in a co-ed school?
MJ: As a matter of fact there is.  I prefer Farrell because it is less distracting for the students, and because I like boys better than girls.
TL: How do you like your new co-workers?
MJ: They're great.  Mr. Schneider, a fellow new teacher at Farrell, was a student of mine when he was in the eighth grade.  So you know he's good at math.

TL: Finally, I hear you're writing a book.  Isn't that

I  recently had the pleasure of interviewing Farrell's newest math teacher, Mrs. Joyce.  It was interesting for a freshman student like me to talk with a new Farrell teacher like Mrs. Joyce.

The Lion: How long have you been working here?
Mrs. Joyce: Just about over a month, like all the new ninth graders here.

TL: How long have you been working as a teacher?
MJ: I've been teaching for over 16 years and tutoring for twenty-five.

TL: What schools have you attended?
MJ: Countess Moore [Moore Catholic High School], Hunter College, and Richmond College.  I went to Junior High at IS 34.

TL: What subjects have you taught?
MJ: I've never actually taught anything else except math in
