On Friday, September 14th, over 1,200 students from Farrell and seven other S.I. Catholic high schools, danced the night away to music played by the popular entertainment group, Partners In Sound.
Student Council moderators Msgr. Nevin and Mrs. McCarthy said that this was the largest student dance they could ever remember here at Farrell. Farrell's dances are usually open to girls from the other Catholic high schools and
Farrell guys only. The typical opening dance each September usually numbers an impressive 700+.
Why the change for this dance? Msgr. Nevin stated that he believed that the World Trade Center disaster had taken a big toll on the emotions of all Staten

Islanders, especially young teenagers. Everyone looked to be really down and so many things had been cancelled, including the previous week's student dance. Following a week of mourning, he and Mrs. McCarthy thought that a Friday night dance might prove beneficial, even therapeutic, for all Island's Catholic high school students. So they sent faxes informing all of their principals that their students were welcome to join the Farrell guys on this special occasion.
Both Msgr. Nevin and Mrs. McCarthy showed their appreciation at how well the night went. "There were plenty of teacher and parent chaperones," reported a Farrell mother. "The students got along very well and there wasn't a single prob

lem or concern the entire night. This kind of Island-wide Catholic high school dance is something we may wish to try again in the future." But for now the next dance will be for girls and Farrell boys only.
