Monsignor Farrell High School will Never Forget 9/11/01

Monsignor Farrell High School marked the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on America with a solemn Mass of Remembrance on Monday, September 13th (click for photos).
The Mass was concelebrated by former Monsignor Farrell High School Principal and Class of 1976 alumnus Bishop Edmund J. Whalen and Fr. Jeff Pomeisl, the school's chaplain. The Mass, held outdoors in the school's stadium, was offered in memory of all who were lost on September 11, 2001, and the days following due to illnesses, especially the twenty-three Monsignor Farrell alumni killed that day in the World Trade Center and the five who have passed away since.
"Our Monsignor Farrell Family suffered too many losses on that day and in the days since," said Louis R. Tobacco '90, President of Monsignor Farrell. "By celebrating Mass on 9/11 every year since 2001 as a Monsignor Farrell Family, we have kept our sacred promise to never forget," he added.
The Mass was attended by the entire student body, as well as the administration, faculty, and staff. It was also streamed live to all parents, alumni, and friends.
Invited guests in attendance included families of the alumni lost on 9/11, members of Monsignor Farrell's Board of Trustees, Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon '75, NYS Assemblymen Michael Cusick '87 and Michael Tannousis '01, former United States Congressman Vito Fossella '83, the Republican nominee for Staten Island Borough President, David Carr '05, the Republican nominee for the NYC Council District 50 seat, Jack Oehm '76, member of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation Board of Directors, Linda Manfredi, founder of the Joseph Maffeo Foundation and a member of the school's board of trustees, as well as members of the Friends of Bill Micciulli Board of Directors.
Following Mass, Monsignor Farrell students placed a wreath in front of the 9/11 memorial located in front of the school as sophomore Ronan Sheehan played the bagpipes.
Monsignor Farrell also produced a tribute video, narrated by senior Michael LaMorte and alumnus Jack Oehm. Jack, a retired FDNY Battalion Chief, also serves as the Chairman of the Monsignor Farrell High School Alumni Hall of Fame Committee and was inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2014. In the video, Jack shares his story of responding to the World Trade Center on 9/11 as an FDNY Battalion Chief while current Monsignor Farrell students read the names of their brother alumni who were killed that day and who lost their lives since from WTC illnesses.
