TOPIC: World War II Underwater Archaeology | Scanning of Wreck Sites

All students are invited to the first meeting of the school year for the Archaeology Society.

Topics include new data-based 3D reconstructions about:

  • The Battleship Arizona in Pearl Harbor's shallows, whose destruction brought America into the war
  • The German Battleship, the Bismarck, and its mysterious end three miles down
  • US merchant ships that were secretly torpedoed by U-boats off the coast of the USA
  • Amphibious Sherman tanks that sank as they attempted to make it to shore on the Allies' costly D-Day beachhead
  • The Troopship Leopoldville disaster in 1944 off the coast of France (5.5 miles from Cherbourg)

This topic is also a prep for the upcoming trip to the Intrepid in NYC (to the special exhibition on underwater archaeology) on Wednesday, October 1st.
