Farrell Players Look For Home Run Performance
This year's Spring Musical for the Farrell Players will be Damn Yankees, which first premiered on Broadway in 1955.
After the success of last year's production, Jesus Christ Superstar, the Farrell Players look for another memorable play for the books with its performance of Damn Yankees.
The Farrell Players, led by Mrs. Melissa Tierney, and assisted by Mr. Rob Tierney, '97, promotes Damn Yankees as "light, fast-paced, and devilishly clever."
Damm Yankees is a classic American musical comedy which talks about a baseball fan by the name of Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil, Mr. Applegate. This allows Boyd to become the young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, who looks to help turn around the fortunes of the Washington Senators and help them "beat those Damn Yankees."
Last year, the Farrell Players earned praise for its performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Lola, who is hired by Mr. Applegate to be his assistant, keeps Joe distracted from his wife to keep him focused on baseball.
The play is based on the novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop. It first premiered on Broadway in 1955, and its most recent professional production was done last year in Washington, D.C.
Marcello DiMarzio, '28, plays the role of Joe Hardy, while Kayla Aubrey, a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy, plays the role of Lola. Zachary Claro, '27, performs as Mr. Applegate.
Meg Boyd is played by Alexia Viggiano, a senior at St. Joseph Hill Academy. Gloria Thorpe played by Quinn Francis, '27, and Joe Boyd is played by Blake Bosques, '28.
