Mr. Joseph Holt, Sr.
The Heart of The Lion Award

Monsignor Farrell High School is proud to recognize Mr. Joseph Holt, Sr. as the inaugural recipient of The Heart of The Lion Award, honoring his unwavering dedication and hard work since he began working at Farrell in 1978.

Hired by Monsignor Peter Finn under the Ecclesiastical Maintenance Services, Mr. Holt has been a cornerstone of the school for over 40 years, overseeing countless projects that have shaped the campus as we know it today.

From managing asbestos removal in the early years, and building the alumni softball field, to overseeing the installation of stadium lights and the renovation of the school chapel, Mr. Holt’s contributions are deeply woven into the fabric of Monsignor Farrell. He played a vital role in the school's major construction projects, including the 2014-2016 exterior renovations, new roofing, the construction of the wrestling room, and the transformation of the gymnasium.

Mr. Holt's commitment to our Faithful Men extends beyond physical projects; he managed every event from open house to graduation with meticulous care, ensuring that each day ran smoothly for both students and staff.

Known for his leadership and willingness to go above and beyond, Mr. Holt has been a mentor to many students who worked under him, teaching them the importance of hard work and dedication.

Mr. Holt's son, Joe, graduated from Monsignor Farrell in 1985 and went on to serve as a New York City Police Officer. He took over for his father as the head of maintenance in 2004 after Mr. Holt officially stepped down as the head of maintenance.

At 87 years old, Mr. Holt continues to work as a member of the Monsignor Farrell maintenance staff, still making sure things are as they should be throughout the building and around campus.

His grandson (Joe's son) Joseph Holt IV, is a member of the Monsignor Farrell Class of 2012.

Mr. Holt has truly embodied the spirit of Farrell, making a lasting impact on the school community. His love for Farrell is evident in everything he has done, and it is with great admiration that we present him with The Heart of The Lion Award.
