Seniors & Parents

We’re off to an exciting start for your final year at Monsignor Farrell! This is a pivotal time as you prepare for college and beyond.

In guidance class this month, we’ve already dived into completing sections of the Common App. I encourage you to ask your son about what we’ve covered and have him show you the sections he has completed.

College visits are happening frequently, and the schedule is posted on Schoology and displayed on the school’s TV Bulletin. Be sure to check these resources regularly for updates. Colleges will be set up in the Link area unless otherwise noted.

For those of you planning to take the SAT or ACT, here are the upcoming test dates:

  • ACT: October 26th and December 14th. Register via the ACT website

Mark your calendars for SUNY’s Free Application Week, which runs from October 21st to November 3rd. During this period, your son can apply to any SUNY school without paying an application fee.

College application deadlines are fast approaching:

  • November applications: Submit by October 15th.
  • December applications: Submit by November 15th.
  • January and later applications: Submit by December 15th.

Types of college admissions:

  • Early Action: Applications are submitted before the regular deadline, and students receive an earlier decision. This option is not binding.

  • Early Decision: This option should only be used for a student’s first-choice school. If accepted, the student must attend, provided they are awarded enough financial aid.

  • Regular Admission: Deadlines vary by school, and students can apply to as many institutions as they like. The general deadline to accept or decline offers is usually May 1st.

  • Rolling Admissions: Colleges release admissions decisions on a rolling basis, rather than all at once.

Please continue to check the College Advisement 2025 page on Schoology for updates.
