Peter Marzano, '68, returns to Farrell to discuss the making of his third book
In what has become an annual tradition, the Writing Studio welcomed back Peter J Marzano, '68, to Monsignor Farrell to discuss his journey to autherhood. And this time it came with a development.
After teasing it during last year's visit, Marzano was able to discuss his newest book, Taken from Carinhall, which was released earlier this year.
In his lecture, he talked about his journey when authoring his books, giving advice and tips to future writers. Marzano shared a slideshow he created filled with tips he used when drafting his books.
Marzano talked about the research aspect in writing. He shared the research he conducted for his books, as he made sure they were authentic to the historical events his books are based upon.

"When I started to lay out who my characters were, I had to really know them," Marzano said. "I had to figure out who they were, what they did for a living, where they lived, how they acted and behaved."
Marzano, whose trilogy stemmed from a dream he had one night, even created Excel sheets to lay out details about his characters, profile information, and connections between them and other characters.
Marzano talked about all he learned about getting a book published. Multiple revisions needed for his books to make sure they were ready, and he had Alpha and Beta readers at different stages of the editing process to provide initial reviews and feedback.
"It's important for others to read your work," Marzano said. "It is easy for authors to miss potential mistakes in their writing."
Students not only received copies of Peter J. Marzano's first two books, but he even signed them for everyone!
Marzano’s third book, Taken from Carinhall, can be described as “a tale of intrigue, passion, betrayal, and shocking revelations” according to his website.
And the plan is for this trilogy to only be one for a limited time. Marzano shared that the fourth installment of the series was in the works.
Multiple young aspiring writers were in attendance during his lecture, along with members of the Class of 1968 in the audience.
Monsignor Farrell thanks Mr. Marzano for his time and wise words to inspiring writers.
