Finding success one pin at a time

Bowling is a sport that dates back thousands of years, with the first indoor bowling lane being opened in New York in 1840. At Monsignor Farrell students continue to play the beloved sport in competitive games.

Monsignor Farrell’s bowling team, moderated by Mr. Tierney, '97, is a community where students can compete and have fun bowling through the school year.

The bowling season is held from early winter into early spring, with playoffs stretching into March. Tryouts are held in October and November.

Sophomore Anthony Bonamo carefully aims his roll during a bowling matchup.

Students participate in nine games during the tryout season. The students' averages are added up and the selected players are divided into four teams. During the season, students compete against other schools playing two games every Tuesday at Rab’s Country Lanes at 3:30.

"To prepare we do ten minutes of practice before games," Paul Konz, '27, said. "I try to loosen up before heading to the alley. To focus I mainly drown everything else out."

At the end of the player’s second game, the players' totals are added up to determine the score. And of course, the highest combined score between competing schools is the one who comes out on top.

Sophomore Paul Konz warms up prior to a matchup. Farrell's bowlers are divided into four teams for each season.

With their season now officially in the books, The Lion congrtulates the bowling team on a successful season.
