Farrell Players take to the stage this year with Jesus Christ Superstar
"Do you think you're what they say you are?"
The Farrell Players, directed by Mrs. Melissa Tierney, produces amazing plays every year. This year's production will be Jesus Christ Superstar, which has brought joy to all audiences for 50 years.
Showings of Jesus Christ Superstar will take place on March 26 and March 27 at 7 p.m., and March 28 and March 29 at 8 p.m.
"Whenever my production team and I meet to discuss the next season, we always think about what we've recently done, what our 'dream shows' are and what shows we have the student population to do," Mrs. Tierney said.
There are shows the club can’t perform so they have seen what exactly they can. Every play the club does, they must get permission from the company or organization who holds or creates the show.
Jesus Christ Superstar, with music originally by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics originally by Tim Rice, was first performed on Broadway in October 1971.
For the club to be able to pick a show they must see what the student performers can do and what they can fit on stage.
Jesus Christ Superstar is based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as the play also follows the last week of Jesus Christ's life. The whole play is told solely based through song as it also explores the personal relationships between the struggles of Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers, and the Roman Empire.
The backstory of Jesus Christ Superstar is based off the Gospels, even though it is told from the perspective of Judas. The show provides a fictional perspective of what Jesus was to his followers and why Judas felt compelled to do what he did.
"Jesus Christ Superstar is such a powerful show, and I love how it dives into themes of power, faith and human flaws with incredible music," said freshman Marcello Dimarzo, who is casted as the Third Priest.
For each student that auditions, Mrs. Tierney and her music director and choreographer look to specify each student best fit for each role to make sure they showcase everyone’s talent. The club has some amazing performers.
Anyone who is interested in joining the Farrell Players is always welcome to audition for the various shows that are held.
