Farrell Juniors Have Perfect Success With New York State English Regents
Our regents and honors level junior classes were required to take the New York State Common Core Regents Examination in English Language Arts. The exam is an assessment of reading comprehension, argumentative writing, and thematic analytical writing. Preparation for this exam begins Freshman year, and is built into Monsignor Farrell’s English curriculum. It is with pride that the English Department can report that all students across our six classes successfully passed the exam.
The English Department’s focus will now shift to preparing all Junior classes for the college application process. At the end of January, the Common App Essay Prompts were released, allowing college bound students to begin the writing process. Senior year is a busy time for all students. Kicking off this process early allows time for the iterative development of a thoughtful essay that truly highlights the unique skills and life experiences that colleges and universities look for in prospective students.
As a premier college preparatory program, Monsignor Farrell strives to set its students up for success in postsecondary education. Guiding our students through the college application process is an integral part of this mission, and our English teachers are excited to embark on this journey with their students. Vir Fidelis!
