Dear Farrell Families,
- SAT Exam
- Farrell Email Address
Parents, please remind your son that he should be checking his Farrell email address regularly and communicating with faculty/staff/administration/coaches using that address, not a personal account.
- Attending Class
Teachers are giving daily assignments through various channels. Some teachers are asking students to log in during their normal class time to do a live discussion, while other teachers are doing a live virtual lesson, instructing in real-time. Many teachers are conducting audio lectures over their notes. These are posted so students can listen to the presentation at any point during the day (obviously before the assignment is due). This asynchronized method of instruction has become extremely popular on many college campuses (even before COVID-19). We ask that you encourage your son, like we are, to attend these live sessions and to make sure they listen to the audio lectures our teachers take the time to create. Attending these live sessions and listening to lectures will benefit them as they prepare for their exams. In addition, please help our faculty reiterate to your son the importance of doing all the assigned readings and supplemental videos that are provided from credible sources.
Required assignments include the assignments from our Physical Education Department.
- Questions or Issues
Any course-specific question or issue should be handled with the subject teacher first. I suggest and encourage our students to attempt to handle any issues before parents contact teachers. This can be done through “Microsoft Chat” or school e-mail. Many students are still using personal e-mail to correspond with teachers. Students can e-mail teachers by clicking the “Outlook” tab once they log into their Microsoft Portal account. Please remind your son that all correspondence should be done in a polite and professional manner.
- Physical Education Courses
In order to meet our physical education requirement by the state, all grade levels will begin completing physical education assignments through Microsoft Teams. A weekly assignment will be posted each week on Monday and should be submitted by Friday. The first assignment was posted on MONDAY, APRIL 20th. If you are not enrolled in a Phys. Ed. section on Microsoft teams, please contact Mr. Garofalo.
- Regents Exams
The NY State Education Department has notified us that Regents Exams have been canceled for this academic year. All students will receive Regents credit for the exam pending successful completion of the course. In lieu of the Regents Exam, a school-based final exam will be given in those courses. With that being said, I cannot emphasize how important it is to monitor PowerSchool on a weekly basis. Any student who is currently failing this extended 3rd Marking Period or is at risk of failing a class for this year, the guidance counselor will be notifying you via e-mail or phone call in the upcoming weeks. If a student fails a course for the year, a student must make the course up over the summer in order to return to Monsignor Farrell High School in the fall.
- National Honor Society (NHS)
All current sophomores and juniors will have the opportunity to apply for the NHS in September 2020 for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications will be available at Orientation in September and we will have our beautiful ceremony at the beginning of October. We will then have another NHS application in the Spring of 2021 as we normally do.
