Attendance Policy

In-person & remote learning

Attendance Policy for Monsignor Farrell High School Students

Absent from in-person instruction (student whose group is scheduled to be in the building):

If a student is scheduled to be in school and will be absent (not participate in class or remote learning), a PARENT must call the attendance office (718-987-2900 x1225) before 10am each day the student is absent and the STUDENT must e-mail each of his teachers to notify them. All faculty email addresses can be found in the Faculty section of the school website (msgrfarrellhs.org). Every student must do this whether he is absent from in-person instruction or remote instruction. Students are responsible for any work or notes they missed in class that day and must bring an absent note upon their return.

If a student is scheduled to be in school and will attend classes remotely, the parent must still report the student absent but mention in their phone call to the Attendance Office that the student will be participating remotely. In addition, the student must let their teachers know they will participate remotely. The student will still get marked “Absent” for the day but will be able to keep up with their daily lessons. The student must bring an absent note upon return.

Absent from remote learning instruction (student whose group is scheduled to be home or is a full remote learner):

If a student is scheduled to be attending remotely and will be absent (cannot participate in remote learning), a PARENT must call before 10am each day the student is absent, and the STUDENT must e-mail each of their teachers. Students will get marked “Absent” for the day. Students are responsible for any work or notes they missed in class that day and must bring an absent note upon their return.

Absent policy in regard to testing

If an exam is scheduled for that day, the student may:

  1. take the exam remotely and must include his intent to do so via e-mail to his teacher
  2. schedule a make-up exam with his teacher via e-mail.

Please note: THE STUDENT WILL ONLY HAVE 1 ATTEMPT TO TAKE THE EXAM. In other words, if the student opens the exam at home, he must complete it in that sitting or else his test will be voided, and he will receive a 0.

If a parent does not call in before 10am and/or the student does not reach out to their teacher through e-mail, disciplinary referral will occur.
