We will be learning about several sites in Iceland:
- The Settlement Exhibition Reykjavík - displays the ruins of one of the first known Viking houses in Iceland in its original location, as well as findings from other excavations in the city center.
- Eiríksstaðir Viking Longhouse - located in West Iceland - the main living history museum dedicated to Erik the Red.
- Thingvellir (UNESCO World Heritage Site) - location for the Althing Assembly. In 930 AD, Viking settlers in Iceland established the Althing (Alþingi) at Þingvellir, which is one of the world's oldest functioning open-air parliaments.
All students are welcome. See Mr. Williams during school or email him if you have any questions about the Archaeology Society.
