Monsignor Joseph A. Farrell Giving Day

Wednesday, April 29 2026

This April 29th, we celebrate the 153rd birthday of Monsignor Joseph A. Farrell

Monsignor Joseph A. Farrell was the inspiration that spurred not only the construction, but also the mission of our beloved school more than 60 years ago.

Please join us in celebrating his memory and the remarkable legacy of a man who committed his life to furthering Catholic education on Staten Island.

Joseph A. Farrell

Ordained a priest in 1900 and elevated to Monsignor in 1935, Joseph A. Farrell held various positions in the Archdiocese of New York and was instrumental in the construction of several new parishes on Staten Island.

In 1959, Francis Cardinal Spellman, the Archbishop of New York, informed Monsignor Joseph Farrell that the "next high school on Staten Island will bear your honored name."

Construction of Monsignor Farrell High School began in April, 1961.

Sadly, Monsignor Joseph A. Farrell passed away on June 13th, 1960, before the construction of his namesake began.
