Archaeology Society - Viking Sites in Iceland

Room 112

Thursday, November 5 2026 from 08:30 PM to 09:30 PM

We will be learning about several sites in Iceland:

  1. The Settlement Exhibition Reykjavík -  displays the ruins of one of the first known Viking houses in Iceland in its original location, as well as findings from other excavations in the city center.

  2. Eiríksstaðir Viking Longhouse - located in West Iceland - the main living history museum dedicated to Erik the Red.

  3. Thingvellir (UNESCO World Heritage Site) - location for the Althing Assembly.  In 930 AD, Viking settlers in Iceland established the Althing (Alþingi) at Þingvellir, which is one of the world's oldest functioning open-air parliaments.
All students are welcome.  See Mr. Williams during school or email him if you have any questions about the Archaeology Society.
