Failing Grades/Regents Exam Failures
Students with failing grades and/or Regents Exam failures are required to make up those classes/exams over the summer.
These policies and dates are not flexible.
Course Failures
Academic Policy Regarding Grades Below 65
-
If a student has an average below 65 in any subject at the end of the school year (a cumulative average of the six (6) grades that he receives for that subject – 4 Marking Periods, Midterm, and Final Exam or Regents), he must make up the class over the summer. Information regarding the make-up process will be provided directly to parents by Mr. Fisher. These courses may be completed either remotely (asynchronously) or in person, depending on the subject and the number of enrolled students.
-
If a student does not earn credit for the course(s) over the summer, he will not be eligible to return to Monsignor Farrell in September.
-
If a student falls below a 65 final average in any three (3) subjects for the year, he will not be eligible to return to Monsignor Farrell in September.
Regents Exam Failures
Policy Regarding Achievement on NY State Regents Exams
-
If a student passes the class for the year but does not receive credit for the NY State Regents exam in a specific subject (scores below a 65 on the Regents Exam), he must attend review classes during the summer and retake the Regents Exam. If Monsignor Farrell runs the review class (this is determined based upon the number of students who must retake the exam), he must report to Monsignor Farrell.
-
Regents review classes will begin on Monday, August 3rd, and will run until Monday, August 17th (no Friday classes). The NY State Regents Exams (for August) are scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th, and Wednesday, August 19th. Please make note of all these dates, as it is mandatory that students attend summer school and/or Regents review. If a student must attend in the summer, we expect vacation plans will be made around these dates.
-
Please note that this policy pertains to all Regents Exams, regardless of any other exams the student may have already passed. All students are required to retake any Regents Exam they have failed at least twice, including the next available administration of the exam in August.
-
The make-up Regents Exams will be administered by the state on either Tuesday, August 18th or Wednesday, August 19th, depending on the official schedule.
Both the review classes and the make-up exam are mandatory for a student to be eligible to return to Monsignor Farrell in September.
