Soccer Program Dominating On Field

With just one loss and one draw on the year, the Monsignor Farrell Junior Varsity soccer team clinched the Archdiocesan Junior Varsity AA Division.

Both Farrell JV And Varsity Soccer Programs Finding Major Success This Season

The Monsignor Farrell soccer program continues to impress on all fronts. With the JV team surging to a 13-1-1 record to finish the season, clinching first place in the Archdiocesan Junior Varsity AA Division, and the Varsity team holding a strong 11-3-3 (9-2-3 CHSAA) record as of October 17.

With both squads holding first-round byes, they are eyeing deep playoff runs.

The JV Lions have been on an incredible streak, outscoring opponents 12-4 in their last four games, highlighted by a 4-1 home victory over Archbishop Stepinac on October 6. The win not only sealed their division title, but it also showcased the team's balance of grit and skill.

After a hard-fought first half, Joseph Marinelli put Farrell on the board with a goal in the closing minutes. Stepinac equalized early in the second half with a penalty, but Vincenzo Coparato answered immediately with a stunning strike from outside the box to reclaim the lead.

Marinelli went on to complete a hat trick, sealing a decisive 4-1 win and sending the Farrell players and supporters into celebration.

JV's Brendan Doda and Canon Costa have both expressed excitement over the championship and a desire to continue the successful run the soccer program has seen.

The Varsity Soccer team holds an 11-3-3 (9-2-3 CHSAA) record and will have a first-round bye in the upcoming intersectional city playoffs.

The JV's team confidence has been building throughout the season, including a spirited 3-1 victory over Monsignor McClancy earlier in the season. Despite facing heavy fouls and aggressive play from the opposition, the Lions stayed composed and earned the win on home turf at Coach Dennis Barrett Stadium.

Not to be outdone, the Varsity squad has been just as dominant, tallying 19 goals for and only 2 against in their last four matches. A commanding 5-2 victory over Monsignor McClancy underscored their offensive firepower and defensive stability as they gear up for their own playoff push.

As the postseason approaches, both Farrell squads are riding high on momentum and school spirit. With the JV team already holding a division trophy, and the Varsity team looking to follow suit, Monsignor Farrell's soccer future looks bright.

Playoff schedule information for both the Varsity and JV soccer teams is to be announced. The first games are expected to happen the weekend of Oct. 24-26.

More information on playoff games, including when and how to watch, for both teams will be forthcoming. Both teams will begin the intersectional city playoffs in the quarterfinal round, with opponents to be announced.

Let's wish our Vir Fideles luck as they chase CHSAA championship glory.
