La Paz Delivers Hands-On Learning Experiences For Marine Bio
The 2026 Marine Biology trip to La Paz, Mexico, was a success, providing a fun, exciting, and educational experience for those students who attended.
They arrived on Sunday, February 15th, and traveled from the airport to the Airbnb, stopping for lunch on the way. The group settled into the environment, preparing themselves for what would be an amazing week ahead.
On Monday, students went on a private boat ride and snorkeled with whale sharks in the open ocean. Later, they visited a mangrove ecosystem, where they learned about how important it is, and then kayaked through the mangrove forests.
Activites that students took part in La Paz included snorkeling with sea lions and whale sharks, visiting a mangrove ecosystem, and hiking.
On Tuesday, they traveled by boat to Isla Espíritu Santo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There, students snorkeled with sea lions at Los Islotes and enjoyed a picnic lunch on the beach.
Wednesday was a visit to the Museo de la Ballena, where the group learned more about whales and marine life. After, they went to the beach and saw tide pools, observing different marine organisms.
Thursday provided a wide range of activities. Some students spent time at the pool, while others went hiking, tidepool exploring, and fishing. The group then flew home the next day to cap off a memorable week in Mexico.
Students and chaperones gather for a group photo on the beach.
After all, this trip gave students an opportunity to learn new things and experiences and a better understanding of marine life, while also creating new memories.
Thank you to Ms. Frydberg, moderator of the Marine Biology Society, Mr. DeCaro, '20, Ms. Weiss, and members of the Monsignor Farrell Leadership Team who helped to make a memorable experience.
