The Lions, coming off a semifinal sweep of No. 3 Iona Prep, was 8-2-4 during the regular season, while Xavier (Manhattan) swept No. 1 Chaminade in the semis, and was 6-5-3.

Farrell faced Xavier three times during the regular season and remarkably all three games ended in ties -- 2-2, 3-3, and 4-4.

“Both teams are evenly matched,” said Farrell coach Steven DeFranco. “Xavier plays a fast and physical style. They are also very structured and strong along the boards. We are also fundamentally strong and we rely on good team defense.

"And this time around, there will be no ties."

“With a city championship on the line, emotions will be high and team discipline and composure will be a key in the series.”

Farrell has a balanced and deep offensive attack and a strong defensive core in players Jason Anzaolone, Joe Burzumato, Jimmy Sparacio, Anthony Pizirusso, Vin Bronzo, Joe Davis, Matt Spano and Jason Lonczynski.

Matty Beach and Richie Leonardo give the Lions a solid tandem between the pipes.

“It should be a hard-fought finals,” said DeFranco.
