Coach Dunn Makes History

All-Time Wins Leader

The Lion's first win of the 2023-2024 season proved to be historic, as it gave head coach Mike Dunn his 211th career win as Farrell's head coach, the most in program history

“Farrell is a great place and I’m blessed to be in this position. It’s an accomplishment that a lot of people are behind.’'

-Mike Dunn

The 63-45 CHSAA A division victory over  Cardinal Spellman on December 2, 2023, moved Coach Dunn ahead of long-time varsity head coach and current Dean of Students Bob Besignano.  Besignano coached the Lions for a total of 12 seasons over two different stints, including seven seasons during the 1980s and five more between 2003 -2007.

“I’m honored and humbled by it and want to keep (the wins coming),’' Coach Dunn said in a Staten Island Advance interview.  Now in his 14th season as varsity coach, he led the Lions to the New York State Federation Championship last season, the first in Staten Island boys high school basketball history.

"The record is not something I really think about, but I’ve been lucky to have a lot of support, beginning with my wife (Anna) and kids (Devin, Allie, Jake); all my assistant coaches and their wives; Farrell’s administration and staff and most importantly, all of my players through the years. I obviously couldn’t have done it without them," he told The Advance.
